JD stop using babbit on crankshaft in B's

What year did JD go from Babbitt to Inserts in the B model? I am fixing on overhauling engine in my 45 B and was just wondering.

I don't think they ever did. They were introduced on the model 50 but for replacement parts you could put them in.

I don't think the change was made till the 50 came along. Then the 50 rods could be subbed for the Babbitt rods in the late B's.

A's were a little different. The real late ones, which may be yours also were fitted with the one piece bushing style mains like a 60 has.

My late 1952 model B (about 3,000 from end of production) also had babbit type rods and mains. I got a set of insert type rods from a 50 parts tractor and had the crank machined to match the inserts I had. I kept the original babbit type mains and only adjusted the shim pack per service manual.
