Looking at a 7810 with IVT with 4000 hrs. Anyone have an opinion good or bad on the IVT in the 7000 series?

Friend had one. Hated it. When you get stuck, you cannot "horse it". In other words, put it in a high gear and drop the clutch to gain momentum to get unstuck.

Not sure if there are many transmission changes between them, but I have a 7830 with IVT, as far as I am concerned the transmission cannot be beat for field work. I like it well enough, that I will continue buying tractors with it in the future.

We have a 7810 with this tranny and love it. Fuel usage is great doing field work. I think it has a little under 5000 hours with no problems

Sure you can Roger- just read the manual & experiment. IVT is priceless. Even got em in the very biggest Deere tractor $ can buy now. You can set min or max rpm, speed etc.

Most people love them. Last a long time with some luck. Only time they are bad is when they need replacing. Price the unit at the local Deere dealer and you head will spin off your shoulders.

If you have operators that KNOW how they work they are fine. For some stuff they really shine like running a round baler in that you can have the forward speed set at 7-8 MPH and the reverse at 1-2 MPH with a left hand reverser to change direction with.

I personally don't care for them. The tractors is doing too much stuff without you telling it to. Just about up set a brand new on once. Was showing a customer how you could go down the road with the motor at a low RPM and still be going MAX transport speed. Went to slow into a turn by pulling the throttle back. The transmission "sensed" the tractor slowing down and went to full throttle to regain the speed. Had the tractor up on two wheels. Scared the heck out of both of us. I know you should have ROLLED the thumb knob back to lower the transmission speed but that is not the first thing a person that is used to a "regular" transmission does.

The boys have a JD 7920 with one in it. About once each year some of the help calls because they can't figure out how to get the darn thing to do something or the other.

The hydraulic control "motor" in the differential went out while it was under warranty. It cost $15K.

In the JD 7810 my PICK of transmissions is the 20 speed Power quad. Rugged and fairly simple.

If I would be buying one it would be a 20 speed power quad or the IVT. I dislike the 19 SP Power shift. They are rough shifting when cold.

The IVT was developed and tested in European tractors first. They seem to be holding up well. If you do have troubles they are costly to repair.
