Block Heater Warning

At 1:30 this morning I woke up to Pounding on my door. My F250 diesel truck was on fire under my car port. The cord to the block heater had rubbed through where it was against the frame and out of sight. I was lucky the fire department got there and I dragged it out in the yard with my B. We are all starting to plug in our diesel tractors and trucks. Make sure the extension cords and wires are in good shape. I thought mine were!

Thanks for the warning. I was just gonna rig up a long bunch of extension cords to a 1800 Watt heater out int he barn..... now I'll rethink that....

That is THE downfall of a block heater for sure. I like to use a timer to operate any that are used regularly. An hour or so before expected start time is often enough. Still have to be sure all cords etc. are in good shape like you said.

The factory cord ran by the mount for the radiator support and and chaffed through over the last 228,000 miles. Bummer

A ground fault circuit breaker would have prevented that. Not the same as a GFI. We have to install them on all circuits now except for the bathroom one.
