DLTX question

been having problems with my DLTX10 leaking fuel into oil, I have change out/tested the needle/seat and checked the float. I have most of the leak fixed but it still looks like carb possibly wicks fuel up into the choke side, from the port at 3 o'clock location?. I have the carb on the bench, I have disconnected my test gas tank a few days ago (fuel still in bowl) and I can still see wet fuel near the middle and 3 oclock loc. inside the carb. looking for recommendation for fixing this leak

You say you've tested and stopped most of the leak but you didn't say what you did to "stop most of the leak". When I do them I set float level with fluid while the bowl is sitting level and still OFF the carb . If your fuel is 1/2-3/4" below the edge and stays there even when tapping with screwdriver then no fuel is going to "wick" uphill and fill your crankcase. You need to make sure the float pivot pin is nice and shiny and that float pivots freely. The clear "tube level" method only tells you where the fuel is. If it rises too much and you know you have the float set closer than that , you can't see what's causing it. That's why I do them OFF the carb and sitting level on bench. You need to make sure the load nozzle is in right side up...don't laugh, it HAS been done. I've seen them upside down AND more often they are not all the way up and seated at top. Sometimes they need a little persuasion to get started through the hole into the throat of carb body. That port is just a vent and fuel at proper level will not find it's way up there. I'm still curious as to how you fixed "most" of the leak and you must have an idea of what caused it in order to have fixed "most" of it.

I have done a couple of things, I changed out the needle and seat even though they were new replacements. I also changed the bowl because I had an extra bowl that had a better surface where the seat screws in. the float is good and operates freely, fuel level is set to approx. 3/8 below top of bowl. Nozzle is up through 3/8 or so through bottom of the throat. I blow through the inlet while bowl is upside down and needle/seat seem to be working. How do you seal the bottom of the bowl when testing off the carb?

Mark, I do shut off the fuel, I have a repro tank/fuel bowl and it doesn't seem shut the fuel off completely. I guess I need to add an inline ball type shutoff but I hate too.

h20luby are you checking the fuel level with some type of indicator as per these pictures? These are on a JD "H" Tractor.

I've got some little rubber balls that Grandkids used to get out of those quarter pin-ball machines at pizza place. they wedge in perfectly and never leak. I use windshield washer fluid , doesn't stink as bad as gas. I hold the bowl and tap pretty good with handle of screwdriver to simulate tractor running. 3/8" is for the float itself, not the actual fluid. Fluid shouldn't be any higher than 1/2" but 3/4" is better in a carb without bowl vent baffles like the 10.

I loctite the seats in in most of those carbs anymore as the gasket will not always seal from corrosion. Also viton seats. a solid seat will drip a bit. Next a new fuel valve may help the, old ones continue to leak fuel past. A positive stopper on your sediment bowl from a newer A jd. the originals are 1/4 turn and leak fuel past. and one last suggestion change the drain valve on carb bottom to one you could put a small hose on then run the hose into a bucket and let it leak.

Hey,
Buy a positive shut off sediment bowl from John Deere and use it when you shut off tractor. Those 1/4 turn shut off valves do not seal tightly. The one from Deere, while a little pricey is good quality and works. Good Luck!
John
