Sediment bowl screens

Well IIRC if you are using the ones sold by Deere then depending on application the brass and the plastic are a little different in size. I would go by application. I also think one style goes into a recess in the glass bowl and the other goes into the valve body first.

Actually, this is for a 1952 B. But, based on what i have found, it is the same as the 630.

thanks,
phil

If you would like additional screen area a good solution is to use a screen from a 20 series combine. The screen is cone-shaped and fits right into your sediment bowl. In fact, I believe the bowls are the same. Mike

The 630 calls for the AA4297R which from Deere were plastic. I don't recall having any problems with any of them as far as material goes. Problems come from many leaving them out. NAPA is to sell a paper filter to fit into that bowl. The number has been posted here before.
I do question if the aftermarket has the correct fit as there are 4 different parts numbers from JD to cover all the 2 cyl. applications.
AA4297R-plastic most popular applications thick rib on id and od
AA519R-stainless steel fit many older units with the cast iron base. Thick rib on id only
L885T-stainless steel fits Dubuque models. No thick ribs
AF3316R-brass fits 720-730 gas auto shut off bowls. Thick rib on od only

There is also the NAPA Gold 3039 filter made to go in the glass bowl. It really catches all of the fine material that might come from the tank.

Here is one of my used filters from a 20 series combine. Did not know what it was until Mike told me. I went to a large two cylinder auction in Missouri couple years back, many of those tractors had this filter in the sediment bowel.

Wow! I learned a lot. Thanks for all the info. I see there are several options. ...and it doesn't sound like there is really any difference in durability between brass and plastic.

Now i noticed that the hole in the bottom of the gas tank is plugged. Put the sediment bowl back together and opened the shut off valve and the gas barely drips into the bowl. Is that a straight hole up from the bowl into the tank? Can you just put a wire up through it?

thanks to all,
phil
