The '49 A is back... And as good as ever!

After 15+ years in the barn, needing a manifold the A is back in service, been a very long time since id driven it or worked ground with it, no its no show pony, this is a work horse, straight sheet metal and fresh paint would only take away from its character. I did put a new steering wheel spinner on it though. Gotta love that magneto, every gas engine needs one!

Grew up pulling a 5 disc tiller and harrow on one like that. Sometimes daylight to dark. It was a 49 also.

The seat is just something i tossed together, originally it was a piece of plywood, covered in vynil with about a 2" chunk of foam inside. I visited both local farm stores in seach of a new seat as the old one has no foam, rotten plywood and very little vynil, had no luck, could have got a "gator" seat for $80 but still would have needed a board to mount it to. I setteled for cutting a 3/4 plywood panel and grabbed a boat cushion to make things a bit softer. Sure beats sitting on the battery!, and its good enough to drive around the barnyard.

Good to hear that another tractor has been resurrected.

Does not matter how it looks as long as it gets the job done.

Thanks for sharing your photos with us.

The rims did rust some, left tire had a valve core fail sometime during its long storage and the right side was leaking some as well, calcium cloride doesnt play well with metal, the 2N parked beside the A had a tire blow after a day or so of being aired up, that stuf went everywhere, glad i wasnt back there when it went. I sprayed it off as much as possible, rims look the worst on the inside where the valve stems are, some metal delamination has occured, once it dried i hit the bad spots with primer, may or may not have done much good but its all i know to do for it besides new rims. Not seeing tube yet so thats a good thing. Tractor sure got taller when it climbed out of the holes, gave it a oil change once i had clearance for the 5 gal drain bucket.
