Model M lighting problem

I am restoring a 48 model M. I replaced the ignition/light switch (AM357t), amp meter (Am354t), battery, and lights. The 6 volt lights will work if I disconnect the switch and use a wire to bypass the switch but they will not come on if I turn the switch to "lights" position. The tractor is not running yet as I have not installed the gas tank but I tested the starter from the switch and it turns the engine from all positions (even the off position). not sure what else to troubleshoot as I have triple checked the wiring diagram. Any thoughts on why the lights won't work. Could it be the cut out is not working as I have not replaced it. Or is the new switch bad?

OK it turns out I think the fuse (AM3937) between the amp meter and switch is bad because when I jumpered across it the lights worked. Any idea on how to replace the fuse or what size it is?

I have not worked on an M, but have had the fuse on my MT blow out, had a bare wire at one time. It is located just inside the battery door on left side at least on my. It is an inline type with metal covering. If it is bad engine will turn over but will not start. I had issues with my MT switch also, when I turned it to light position the engine would die. I took it apart and cleaned contacts inside and it worked great. I believe the fuse may be 20 amp. JD parts site would probably show it.

Take a look at the diagram below.

Note the wire, lead, with fuse, ammeter to light switch (Key 2) fuse, 20 amp (Key 3), and wire, lead, ammeter to cut-out relay (Key 4).

Take a look at the photo below of the terminals on the light-ignition switch.

The photo below shows the lead wire with 20 amp fuse from the ignition switch.

The power to the ammeter comes from the starter switch.

Take a look at the two generator terminals.

There are two terminals on the coil.

Connect the ignition and accessory terminal lead wire from the ignition switch to the negative terminal on the coil.

Hope this helps.
