I know it is probably a shot in the dark guys but I am trying to find what I need to make a 4230 or 4430 a narrow front tractor. I do not know a lot about them. I see photos every once in awhile and just love the narrow front tractors. What models in the 30 and 40 series were even available with the narrow fronts? Any help would be great! Thank you much!

I have a couple other narrow front tractors of other brands and just thought it would be a neat addition! No reason really! ha ha

According to parts catalog 4030 could also have a CONVERTIBLE AXLE

They are tough to find, I've only seen 2 myself. I know they made 2 different ones, 2 line and 4 line steering systems. The ones I've seen were on a 4230 and a 4440.

There was a gasoline 4030 narrow front on auctiontime a couple weeks back. If I remember correctly, it brought $10,800 for the whole tractor.

There's a 4230 cab narrow front on Madison CL for $16,500

You need the convertable motor and must be the proper serial number.
Some wide fronts have the convertable motor... Perhaps they were ordered with narrow front and wide was stuck on later or perhaps convertable motor was available with wide front?

I occasionally get a narrow front 20 series and I cant believe how handy they are .One reason some people like them besides being unique is they haul easier and take less room to store.I had a 2520 N.F. I took to a tractor rodeo and it won the 4 wheel trailer backing by over a minute. If you had a nice open station[no roll bar] 30 series with narrow front several people are looking for them to collect

When you say any pedestal will fit how many different pedestals did JD make and what was the heaviest option? I will send a photo of what I have. When I purchased it I was told it was from a 4430. Thank you all!

The one D17 has posted is the one you want..a 4020/4320 and the new Gen's offered this one..

Yes it is 26860R I paid $200 for the pedestal with the hubs on it I hope I didn't over spend. So this would be for the 4020 and larger tractors?

Yes, we had on like that for our 4020 when we had the 237 picker on it, the New Gen's don't really need the roll-o-matic,the rigid front is stronger.

Roll-O-Matics sure helped the tractor operator keep the front wheels in the bottom between the beds on manual steering tractors plus the tractors rode smoother on cloddy ground with R-O-M similar to walking beam equipped tillage tools.

It seems aR O M is easier to find. What would you recommend putting on a 4230 for it to be proper?

I would go with the "Non" ROM, the heavier tractors are a bit hard on the ROM gears and since they have a much better power steering the ROM part will not be as important, the primary reason for the ROM was to help keep the steering wheel from kicking when crossing plow furrows.
