new Voltage regulator

I replace my old VR on my john deere a.The old VR had three terminals marked F G BAT.The new VR has three terminals marked.F B L.So I wired F on VR TO F on generator, L terminal the lights ,and B on VR to A on generator along with the ammeter wire is this the right way?

correction on the ammeter wire. the wire from the ammeter I have it connected to the B terminal on the VR

Nope! Look on the bottom for the A terminal. Only one wire on each. Leave the L open. B is from battery.

Your new VR is a 4 terminal BAT FLD LOAD up on top plus GEN/ARM on the bottom or one side all by itself, it wires like this:

BAT up to the Load side of the Ammeter
FLD to Gennys FLD post
(L)OAD feeds hot battery voltage up to Light
switch and Ignition (used to be fed from Load
side of ammeter)
GEN/ARM (one underneath) to ARM on Genny

The new VR must be compatible with your tractor ground (was originally POS ground)

Just to be safe Id polarize the genny before start up
