Dad and I are working on a 1969 4020 that misses on a couple cylinders and has plenty of white smoke. Pulled injectors today, two are older and four are newer. The two older ones crack at about 2500 psi, the four new ones crack around 3200 psi. Spray pattern and chatter isn't great on some of the newer ones either. Obviously bad news to have that kind of variation in injectors.
Checked compression and its about 300 psi in cylinders 1 and 2 at 10 hits and 350 psi in the rest at 10 hits. Applied oil to cylinder 2 and that brought up the compression so the engine is obviously worn some. Haven't located our copies of the IT or the JD service manuals yet so am not sure if 350 psi at cranking speed is considered overly low.
Want to try a new set of injectors before any further engine teardown/repair since it for sure needs new ones.
Where do you guys like to go for a good quality, good value injector? I'm not all about low price, I'm happy to pay more for quality but don't want to overpay either. We are close to Indianapolis, IN so have access to diesel repair shops and of course JD dealer and whatever is on the net.
