I have a 4440 when I use it to plow or disk after about 2-3 hrs
the 3 point wont raise and the remotes wont work. after it sets
for about an hour they work again. I replaced the filter no change
Temp seems to hot to the touch around the back.I looked at the oil cooler real dirty and damaged from the hoses rubbing against it. I replaced the cooler no change. Would be Thankful for your help.

Sounds as if your tractor has an internal HIGH pressure leak. Check hyd components with a laser thermometer and report back which component is the HOTTEST.

OK I will,I just got this tractor and only see this problem under heavy load. Just finished planting so will have to see if heats up
under a lighter work load. Thanks

Your transmission gets hot just being normal,, your stand by pressure could be below 2,000psi and as it warms up may dip to the 1750psi thresh hold at that point the rockshaft and SCv's will go dead, a sorta plugged sump screen can also cause this too...drawing in stuff as you work and closing off the screen...that screen needs looked at and the stand by pressure needs checked...since it's not a power shift we will rule out transmission issues...

The good news a real JD manual on CD or hard copy can be had from 1-800-522-7448.
After you read the factory info you will want to stick the IT manual in the ear of the person who sold it to you.
A previously stated the transmission screen maybe loaded. Hopefully not with brake or clutch material. The wrong oil can ruin the friction material.
Mother Deere is a good sport and has an online parts book. http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.HomePageServlet_Alt
There is an uptime high volume transmission oil pump for some of the 30 through 55 series tractors but we won't go there yet.

OK Thanks for all the information I need to get started gathering some information and results and will get back with you guys.
Thanks again.

Do you loose steering too? There is a pressure control valve located below the right hand battery box and it prioritizes the steering. If your steering does not go away, your pressure might just be dropping below 1950psi, but if you loose all hydraulics, then check the center part of the pressure control valve. It should be tight inside the barrel of the valve.

(quoted from post at 20:18:56 06/02/14) How do I get to the screen to clean it? Thanks

Trans sump screen is accessed on LH side. It's located between hyd filter & rear axle housing.

Here are some temp readings I took. Base line start was 82 % around the SCV,Rockshaft, hyd pump area. Ran the tractor for an hour moving equipment around no real hard work. L. SCV was 99 %, Rockshaft 96 %, hyd pump 120-130 %, pressure control valve
130 %,pressure regulating valve 122 %, oil filter cover 115 % oil filter relief valve 117 %,R.SCV 122 %. I had some problems getting the right SCV to work correctly so I just used the left one to get the planting done. I suspect the right side is causing some of the problem running 23 % hotter than the left side. I'm going to rebuild the R. SCV and see if the temp drops. Also pulled the sump screen it looked clean. No loss of steering or brakes so far its just the the 3 pt, and remotes.

Loss of 3 pt & scv's sounds as if you have low stand-by pressure as priority valve closes at about 1750 psi stopping pressure to 3 pt & scv's. Stand-by psi should be at 2250 psi

I'm with Jim,, those heat readings are not that much out of line, if your near the 1750 thresh hold on your stand by pressure a little warm up could and would let it slip lower a bit and trigger the priority valve, shutting down the 3pt and SCV's...
