i just finished restoration of unstyled l tractor sn 621373. story behind it is that it used to belong to my next door neighbor when i was a little kid. he worked for john deere and when i wasnt on a tractor with my dad i would play on this tractor as it sat on the edge of his back yard awaiting eventual restoration. before i got into the hobby of antique tractor collection and restoration he moved and sold this tractor and the unstyled b beside it. two years ago when i got the itch to get and restore an unstyled l i remembered the look of the wheels on that tractor and knew it would have been what i wanted. by a stroke of luck i was talking to a local friend of mine at a show last year while we were looking over my 1946 la i had just finished and he told me he had an old model l with a brass tag that he bought years ago. after a few more questions we determined that he indeed had my neighbors unstyled l that i grew up on. it was still sitting in pieces just like he bought it and he also had intentions of restoring it someday. he agreed to sell it to me and over the past 10 months or so i have fully restored it. surprisingly after sitting in pieces for nearly 30 years and changing homes twice the only parts i did not have were a valve tappet, a wrist pin, and one flywheel bolt. as you can tell from the "before" pictures the parts i did have required quite a bit of work. fortunately my neighbor and the most recent owner were able to be at the show saturday to see the finished product. we were all really pleased with the outcome.

Now that is a nice story with a happy ending.
