1929 Fully restored Poppin John tractor value

I need to know the approximate value of a fully restored 1929 John Deere tractor. Runs perfectly. My dad restored it from the nuts and bolts up. He has passed away and his last request was for us to donate it to a museum since it was the first tractor used in that area. The museum is requesting the appraisal. My dad left four daughters who know nothing about tractors to handle this so please be kind in your responses. It's a hard time for us.

Hello,
Sorry to hear of your father's passing. If you
don't know the model and ( where to find ) the
serial number, might I suggest a photo so the
experts ( I'm not one to be sure ) can help you
identify the model and rarity of the tractor.
Dad was very generous to the rest of us, in
that he wished to see it housed in a museum for
many to enjoy and learn from for many years to
come. You have asked a VERY open ended
question, and without some basic details I'm
not sure anyone here can help since there were
so many models and variations of models. I am
looking forward to finding out what you've got
in the barn...
Again, we all grieve the passing of a JD
tractor man.

Blessings, Bob

Please do not desecrate the fine John Deere
tractor your father must have though highly of by
referring to it as poppin john

I'm sorry to offend you. My grandpa who purchased it in 1929 called it that. It was the first tractor in the valley and I'm sure it made quite a noise compared to the horse drawn plows. My Dad who was born in 1920 and all his sisters affectionately called it that. When I asked my aunt what the model was, that is what she called it. We are trying to carry out my Dad's last wishes. I didn't mean to be controversial. I do know that he refurbished it from the bolts and nuts up. It was a real labor of love for him.

Is the front axle straight or is it arched?

If it is in fact a 1929 then it is either a "D" or "GP"

Arched = GP
Straight = D

Do a google search to see pictures of each and match it with what you have.

I've heard them called that all my life know what part of popin john is not correct,If its a john deere and green has two cyclinders in the south thats what most people call them .

Whats wrong with calling a John deere a poppin johnnie? That what the old guys called them around here or a johnnie popper

Thank you so much for you kind words. Dad left four daughters who don't know anything about tractors to handle this. My sister is sending me a photo to post. The museum is requesting the appraisal.

How many models and varations of John Deere tractors were there in 1929? Based on what I have done on general Average Tractors(assuming it is not serial #1 or the only- rarest one built) no matter how much time and money spent the finish tractor is only worth so much.

You have a bucket of Bolts,4 wheels, Engine and gear cases and maybe several pieces of sheet-metal and a gallon of paint which if redone nicely cost $5000.00 - $10000.00 a little more or less depending how much is spent getting it done.

Just guessing site un-seen I would guess any 1929 average tractor at the most the value would be in the $10000.00-$15000.00 range. Maybe John Deeres bring more on a sale but most brands you would be lucky to get your investment back.cleddy

Okay then-I guess no one has an idea what a 1929 tractor is worth. If they just need a number $5000.00 would be a good guess for appraisal purposes. If the family needs a value for tax exemption then $10000.00 would be a good guess. Why ask if there is no follow up????cleddy
