hydraulic pressure question on a 2510

They are set for 2250PSI,,2510's came with a 4 piston pump, just half the displacement of the 2520 pump, they achieve the same pressure but only half the flow, a bigger 8 piston pump can be installed if you want more flow, as in making a loader go up faster...

Thanks Tim. I've got a 3 pt log splitter with a 4" cylinder. It does a fairly good job but hangs up some on larger logs. Calculating with that pressure comes out about 14 tons of force about 1/2 of some of the newer gasoline drive splitters. I may replace with a larger cylinder.

If you have a remote coupler, and I'm sure you do, fashion a 3,000 psi gauge into one side and see what kind of stand by pressure that you actually have, it could be a bit low, the pressure can be turned up by screwing the stroke valve screw "in" it's located under the front pump . a 3/4" wrench loosens the jam nut and an Allen wrench turns the screw.

My guess is your log splitter has an open center valve with a pressure relief valve set lower than 2250. Simple test for type valve is remove male coupler from splitter return hose, aim hose in tractor hyd oil filler activate tractor scv control with splitter valve in neutral & if oil comes out splitter return hose you have an open center splitter valve & need a CC valve or at least a CC conversion plug

How can I tell which pump is on the tractor? If I go to a bigger cylinder for the splitter it is going to slow it down. I know having used a loader on this tractor in the past it always seemed fast enough and seems ok with other hay equipment now. My uncle who bought this tractor new may have put a larger pump on it. I just don't know.

The smaller pump will have 4 plugs around the out perimeter..and as Jim stated "most" commercial wood splitters have a open center valve on them, which will not work well on your "open Center" system, and most valves have a relief setting of about 1800-2000 psi, which means you will be putting more pressure to it than that, so the relief will be by-passing too soon,, not to try and confuse you with all this, but it is important to have a closed center valve on the splitter. You can tell if you 1 tighten the valves relief tight,,2 remove the return line hose that is going into the tractor and remove the end,,head it into a bucket and engage the tractor lever, there should be "No" oil going into the bucket if it's a closed valve,,if oil does go into the bucket it is an "open" valve. Some valves are convertible so check this out and get back to us..

I think Tim had a "typo" as he mean't your 2510 is "closed center hyd's"!!
