The plow wheel won't come off

I just bought a JD 44 plow at an auction. I need to put on better tires. For the landside wheel (with the lift clutch) I removed the axle cap, a pin, and then 3 thin washers (bushings) and the wheel will slide off the axle for about 1 1/2 inches and then stop. The stop is sudden and that wheel will not slide off any further, no matter how much force I have used. The axle has no burrs that I can detect. Anybody know what I need to do to get that wheel off the axle?

This has been over on here at least a dozen times, the HUB is on a 3 SHOULDER CAST TAPER, with some judgement with plow raised off from the ground a little, take a rugged piece of hard wood and with occasionally slowly rote the wheel and strike the wheel from the rear down next to the hub several times and it will come off. They are STUCK tight.

Carlyle, thanks for the instructions on how to remove the wheel. For the record though, having been using this forum for years this is the first post I can remember that explains wheel removal. Thank you. Bill

This question has been asked before, you can probably look through the archives and find answers. The easiest way, if there are two of you, is to stick a long prybar in between the wheel and the hub. While the person is prying out, take a sledge hammer and give the end of the axle a good tap and the wheel will pop right off. I have done several this way, even a couple myself, but that get's pretty tricky. One good rap and you'll have it. Just another method to try if you need it. Good luck

FWIW; I have not seen it here before either ? Maybe in implement ally as I am hardly over there.

Carlyle,
First, thank you for the info.
You wrote "This has been over on here at least a dozen times"...so very sorry to annoy you, but this plow is the first green thing I have purchased in a long time (I work mostly on IH #8 plows).
But your advice worked...I just wasn't hitting it hard enough, but with"judgement" that wheel came off.
Thanks also to you other fellows with follow-up.
Now the single lift spring broke so I will have to find one (the spring was broken 1/2 way thru for some reason).

I have personally answered it 4 times or more, Not a problem to help folks but Carlyle is right and he answered it first.

I've got new lift assist springs if we're talking about the same thing.

If by chance you need another spring inside the clutch mechanism I probably can help with good used springs there too.

Thanks,
Tyler
