John deere a steering

A quick question. I restored a '50 "A".
When I first got it, from what I remember it drove real nice down the road. After the restoration I put 1 new front tire on it and left the other tire alone. The tires are the same size but 2 different brands.
The front wheels shake bad in 6th gear now. What are the chances that those front tires are causing that?
It may be the worm gear etc. or bearings......but I just do not think it did that when I first got it. If the 2 front tires aren't the EXACT same size being one is new and two different brands, are they "fighting" each other down the road because of the contour of the tire??
Thanks !!

I had the same problem . Turned out to be a bad tire. It was bad out of round. Jack up the front of your tractor and spin the wheels to see if you have a bad tire. If that's not it your going to have to take off the cover and make some adjustments to the eccentric bushing and the end play . Find a IT manual it will tell you how to make the adjustments .

It would be smart to review the worm gear, put the poor man's fix to this can be to let out a little air from the front tires, and see if that helps.

As to the roll-a- matic, yes it can. I have a 50 A that we use a dual wheel set up on, no roll-a-matic and a roll-a-amatic, and when using the rolla we get some shimmy and with the same tires and wheels with the dual wheel we get no shimmy.

Check in the shop manual, and adjust the eccentric bushing below the sector gear. Some have a lot of adjustment, and some are worn beyond adjustment.

I agree with others comments about checking the adjustment of the eccentric bushing below the sector gear.
I went through this adjustment on my B model and a couple of days later, it was back to shaking again.
A friend told me to remove the screwdriver slot screw, and get a better allen head setscrew so the adjustment can be tightened down better and won't slip out of adjustment so easy.
That was 15 years ago, still no shimmy.
