2040

Just ran across a 2040 with 1700 hours two wheel drive. Asking $7900 - is that a fair price? Any good or bad points on a 2040? Thanks in advance.

2040 were nice utility tractors. They had open center hyd's until SN 266750

Ferd,
I bought my 2040 three years ago. Serial number is 35xxx. It has been a good buy at $10,000. Came with a JD loader and 10.00X16" tires on the front. It is ideal for lifting round bales.

I should add that mine has slack in the steering. The oversize tires and heavy FEL use caused wear in components. I bought a new steering lever for it, but when I went in to replace it, the original was okay, the wear was in drag link and bell crank. By the time I was done, it was too late to return the part for credit. If you know anybody who needs JD part L24081, let me know. I can save somebody some money.
