730 gas ignition update (john t)

in regards to john t's advice i set the points how
they should be. i tested the voltage at the coil
terminal like you said and there is 5.75 volts
there. it has a delco remy 1115399 coil on it which
when looked up says it is a 6 volt coil.

i forgot to mention in my previous post that i also
have replaced the ballast, and it is wired for full
voltage while cranking.

I forget what transpired previously, but with the ignition on and the correct 6 volt coil you mentioned and with the points closed ALL SOUNDS CORRECT. Then with the engine cranked a test lamp on the coils output (to distributor) terminal should flash ON (points open) and OFF (points closed). If so but still no spark get back into my Troubleshooting Procedure where it talks about taking the coil wire (out of dist cap) and placing it to within 1/4 inch of tractor iron to see if it sparks each time the points break open, that will show if you have a cap or rotor problem.

Also make sure the coil polarity is correct.
If you run the battery + to ground like it was made to then make sure wire on the + side of the coil goes to the points.

Had a person with a weird problem on a 2010 and it turned out that was all his problem was. I have seen others ran wrong with no problems though.
