JD 2030 gas loader tractor - value & questions?

Hi JD users and experts. Could sure use your knowledge and recommendations:

Looking at a gas JD 2030 loader tractor sn:220027T ( the tag says Made in USA) (1975 if I interpret tractordata.com numbers correctly); loader type(E0135) made in Canada the tag says; hrs: 3446; starts right up- no smoking; shed kept for quite a few years, anti-freeze filled rear tires; very slight amount of free play in power steering; leaking QD on two of the remote connections for loader, slight leak somewhere that drips on oil cooler and part of radiator (see pic)- this causes dust to gather on both.

I want it to do some major landscaping around my house, use on my small pecan farm to unload super sacks, move things etc and power a reverse till rotary PTO tiller in my orchard.

I have the following questions for all you guru's and experts:

1.What do you JD guys see as a fair price for this tractor?

AND, how does one determine the following:

2.Is the PTO live or does it have the independent PTO (optional)?

3. Does the tractor have the optional MID PTO (1000 rpm), or just the standard Rear PTO 540?

4. What in particular should I pay close attention to that is often problematic on this model and year of JD that could be costly to repair?

5. Any other comments or recommendations on the suitability of this tractor for what I have intended?

I know the current owner and it seems to not have been abused.
The oil was quite dirty, but within the operating range when I checked the dip stick.

Any recommendations, thoughts or comments are sincerely appreciated.

Kind Regard,

I don't know the 2030 tractors and I'm sure not a tractor expert or mechanic. To get a general guideline of price, I often look up tractorhouse.com
I looked a minute ago and found 11 for sale on that site. Auction prices were quoted from $4500 to $1800, making an average of $4589 or $4249 without the hi/lo. For sale listings averaged $7939. Hope this helps. kelly in tx.

Not too many of the 30 series gassers built. Lots good enough for a loader and odd jobs tractor.
It probably has the high capacity 2.4cu" front hydraulic pump for loader operation. Good to have.
Who ever the fool was who connected the loader to the scv's needs to be taken behind the woodshed and beaten. Unless..................they connected the return line from the valves to a ported filter cover. Instead of returning the oil direct to the transmission sump from the valves. Odds of that however are near nil.

So I don't know enough to determine if the hydraulics are routed as they should be as indicated in your comment-- can you tell me how to determine if that is the case?

Have a sense of the value of this tractor?

thanks

$6K or less would be great. Could go as high as $7K if you know and trust the seller. Yes, the loader hydraulics should be plumbed differently. Not only would it improve the loader performance, but it would also free up the outlets for other things. It's hard to tell what it has for transmission or pto options. It looks like a really nice tractor from the pictures. Not abused, has been shedded, well maintained. The biggest things to check would be the engine- how it starts, does it miss, does it run warm? Check the clutch- does it slip, is it grabby? Operate the hydraulics- does the loader move its full range of travel without it chattering? Does it make any difference if the 3-point is up or down or in between? Use the tractor for an hour or so. See if you like it. There's no sense in buying a tractor if you don't like to run it.

The JD engineers from Welland,Ontario,Canada were the ones that offered the option of SCV hyd control on ""brand new JD loaders""!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You will want to take a gallon of hy-gard with you and a transmission oil filter anyways. #1 if there is no hose connected between the filter cover and the hydraulic valves. Who ever plumbed the tractor had no clue. They have been starving the front pump for years.
#2 look for and hope for only minor little bits of normal clutch/brake pad friction material. Fine grey metal is trouble because the brake pads have worn through to metal.
As previously stated, having the scv's tied up makes no sense.

The 1st bad thing I see is no radiator side screen which allows chafe to plug rad & hyd oil cooler. FEL is a 145 not 135. If there's a yellow knob between the 2 gear shift levers then it has hyd ind pto if no lever it probably has continuous pto(dual stage clutch). Mid pto will have 2 levers on LH side by left foot while sitting in the seat. I'd guess $5000-$6000

Hi Tx Jim,

thanks mucho for the diagrams and input.
from them it was easy to determine it has the independent pto.
(see pic) since it has the center pto lever as you describe.

excuse my ignorance, but what is FEL?
I see the '145' may be from the 'type' sticker on the Canadian built loader I posted originally.

After a brief internet search I independently came up with $6K for the price after averaging 2 asking prices and 1 sold price--so I guess I was on the high end. Good to know if the owner disputes my offer (made him an offer of $6K- contingent on me being satisfied after I use the tractor for an hour or so)

for use with a reverse tiller it appears that and independent PTO is easier to use than a continuous (2 stage clutch)?

And after checking tractordata.com and a few other places could not find the land speed for lowest gear at rated engine RPM--anyone know what that is?

Thanks for your assistance!

Tx Jim, b&d:
Would it not make sense for this loader-tractor combo, that the hydraulic lines were routed though the remote ports for ease of disconnecting the hydraulic lines for loader from the tractor?

You're welcome. Although I agree with b&d returning FEL control valve oil is better JD engineers must have thought SCV control of FEL would be adequate OR they wouldn't have offered it as an option when the 2030 & 145 were BRAND NEW. I think the 2030 will operate a tiller just fine.

Because some people had no clue and could not tell the differnce betwee a Waterloo and a Dubuque/Mannheim hydraulic system.
How do you expect the 4gpm transmission pump to supply a 24gpm front pump on a Dubuque/Mannheim unless a ported filter cover is used?
The Waterloo tractors return hydraulic oil to the transmission oil filter instead of to the transmission sump. Thus aWaterloo doesn't starve the front pump.
How is having the hydraulics connected to the scv faster to disconnect than the two Pioneer quick connect fittings that supply the joystick on my 240 loader's joystick?
Added bonous the rear scv is not tied up with a loader.
As somebody who has operated a tractor and loaded with both the scv supply and then updated to the direct supply and ported filter return. You really should believe me instead of disregarding real world advice .

Jim those factory mounted loaders on the Dubuque/Mannheim tractors usually used the optional ported filter return from the valves to the filter. Instead of dumping straight to sump from the valves.

I'll bet you I installed/delivered or supervised more FEL's being installed on Dubuque/Mannheim utility tractors while employed at a JD dealership than you have in your whole lifetime especially after you became a nuclear plant employee. None of the above mentioned tractors had SCV return their oil to a ported filter cover!!! Installation instructions for tractors utilizing SCV's for FEL control didn't mention ported filter cover.

A pity that they did not. The hydraulic systems would have operated much faster and smoother.

You missed your calling as you could have applied for employment as an engineer at the Welland factory that built the JD loaders.

Contrary to your beliefs the FEL will operate just fine plugged into scv's for normal everyday farm operations especially when the tractors were NEW.

Txjim I have operated the same tractor and loader from the SCV and with a dedicated supply with a ported filter return.
The difference in performance was dramatic .

REALLY you operated a NEW 2030 that had been changed from no ported filter cover to having a ported filter cover for SCV's and noted the FEL operational differences in cycle time??

As I previously stated you missed your calling as you should have been a JD ENGINEER!!!!!!!!!

(quoted from post at 12:46:35 11/01/14)
It was an almost new 2020 gasser with a 48 loader. Why do you think Deere sells the ported filter cover ?

So you're stating you operated this 2020/FEL without & with a ported filter cover??

I think JD sold/sells the ported filter cover for high demand hyd functions such as orbit motors. READ MY LIPS I've never stated ported filter cover wouldn't help FEL operation but from my dealership employment experience which by the way I think you lack having NOT EVERY FEL on a JD utility tractor needs a ported filter cover. Why do you think JD sold new FEL with the option of operating from the SCV's with not nary a mention of the ported filter cover in the FEL installation instructions or operators manual????????????? The reason being instead of you being a JD engineer you were employed as a nuclear electrician!!!!!!!!!!!

We complained to the dealer that the hydraulics were slow even with the 1.4cu" pump. Loading the manure spreader from the pile required stopping and waiting for the loader to raise when supplied for the SCV.
When tied in direct supply with the ported filter return. There was ample time to raise the loader high enough to dump in to the spreader without stepping on the clutch to wait.
