I've had the set screws for the bearing set collars vibrate loose twice in a week. Can I Loctite the set collars and with which formula? Should I change the collars out?

Do the collars tighten up?

If not, a new collar would be a good idea...

I always loc-tite lock collars on. Maybe makes it a little harder to remove, but that frustration is A LOT cheaper than replacing a shaft that is worn because a bearing came loose.

If the shaft is worn just a little, you can try puncture wound punching the shaft, and then installing the collar with loc-tite. However, this is usually a temporary solution.

Good luck. Where are you in NY?

1. Are you snugging up the collars with a hammer and punch, turning them IN the direction of shaft rotation?

2. If the shaft is worn even a few thousandths in the bearing or collar area, ANY
"fix" will be temporary.

3. If you want to try it, there's NO reason you can't use ANY variety of Loctite on the setscrews. For some jobs, I just use a dab of silicon gasket maker. That's enough to keep vibration from loosening things up, if there are no other issues.

But, I suspect you are going to need a new countershaft and new bearings to keep things together.
