404 Engines

Are 404 engines a bit hard to start after they set for a month? In the last week I have started two 4430's and both of them did not start near as good as my 466 engine. About a year ago I started a 4040 and it smoked and coughed before it started
Someone said that was their nature. Neighbor has a 4020 and I didn't notice if it took some cranking. One of these was a high houred tractor.

They all have their own little issues, a lot of times it's because the fuel leaked back to the fuel tank, and it takes a bit to pick it back up and start..it helps to pump the primer a bit when the set a while, and of course if the fuel tank is near full or near empty can make a difference..

It's possible the mechanical operated aneroid on the 4430's didn't reset properly from worn mechanism in addition to fuel leaking back to tank as Tim mentioned.

there is a check valve in the fitting ware the line goes into the filter. replace it and the fuel does not drain back ,they start much better. it costs about $4.00
