JD 44 plow question

I recently bought a JD 44 2-bottom trailer plow at an auction.

The frame has a decal stating "No. 16 Frame". When I measure across (90 degrees from front to back) the plow beams are 14 3/4 inches...center of beam to center of beam...same measurements in front and rear of beams so beams are parallel and the plow has no damage to any parts.

Is this plow a 2-14" or a 2-16"?

On my IH #8 2-16" plow the beams are exactly 16" from center to center.

It is both. The 44 has offset standards. It also has a reversible furrow wheel. So the plow can be set for 16" or 14".

Blaine has it right. The plows are convertible. Just swap the standards front to rear and you have a change in width of cut.

Deere made a 10-12" frame, a 12-14" frame and a 14-16" frame in the model 44.

Thanks guys,

I took a good look at the standards and I see the "bend" in each one. I measured the moldboard sides and they are 14"...just what I wanted.

Reversible furrow wheel will get checked when I can plow...it might work just fine as is.

The 14x16 frame set up with the 14" bottoms gives more trash clearance than the 12x14 frame set up with 14" bottoms.
