I am removing the camshaft in my early 1939 H John Deere. I have a IT shop manual and have follow it. I can not remove the left camshaft bearing from the shaft. I have removed the snapring, but the bearing does not wont to come off. I can see I will have the same pproblem with the cam gear. Do not wont to beat on it . Do not wont to brake anything. Have I missed something? Is ther a trick to the removal? Thanks in advance.

You usually have to hook a gear puller up and pull them off.
To got hooked up on the cam gear IIRC you have to pull the governor housing off to gain enough room for a puller.

Here are some pictures of what I have to remove. Please help if you can.

Is there an inner snap ring in the main case where you could bump the shaft out from inside of the bearing to get it started ? Unless it was loctited it should not be on there too tight as the nut holds it all together.
I think that is a commonly found bearing. I would not be afraid to heat the inside race as to try and get it loosened up.
I think the later models with the 4 bolt bearing retainer the bearing comes out with the retainer.
I have done at least 2 of those early ones when I parted them out but that was many years ago. I don't remember the exact process.

On the later ones I seem to remember being able to lift up the cam above the case just enough to hook a puller jaw in one of the cam gears inner openings by the hub. The other jaw I could get one thru the crankshaft hole after removing the crank and bearings. That cam was about the last thing stripped from the main case.
Your bearing is in the way on yours preventing you from being able to raise it enough to get a puller on it. Hopefully with some careful work you can persuade that bearing off first.

Those taper splines are a b***h to get off. I think that bearing should have come off with the housing so your snap ring may have been missing. Don't try hammering on the threaded end. I made that mistake. Heating the center of the gear may help.
