2510 flywheel

I have a neighbor in need of a good used 2510
flywheel. The JD Parts site shows no difference if
from a gas or diesel. Stated it should be marked
T20322 or T25322. Thanks.

Well, in between dumping loads of beans I went by there and looked at it. Seems the ring gear is loose from the flywheel and he is afraid the casting has galded. There is some shiny dust. The local dealer does have a ring gear in stock. New OLD stock, I bet. Told him to split the tractor and we will see how bad the damage is... may be able to install a new ring gear. He starts picking cotton tomorrow, so it will be a week or so until it gets split. In the mean time I still want to find another flywheel... just in case.

If the starter gear spun on the wheel I would consider peening it with a center punch in an orderly fashion all around the surface area and use some good loc-tite ,,then instal a new gear,,maybe even consider a spot weld here and there too....

I thought about spot-welding a new ring gear, but the idea of peening dimples around the wheel is why I love this forum... Thanks, Tim.

Yes I considered the balance thing too, but 4 short near the same length spot welds spaced even should not put it off too much..
