wheels slide?

have a Yanmar which is a almost twin to a John Deere 650 that is made by Yanmar. Question is, it starts with the starter and works perfect in all ways but if I try to start it by pulling, the wheels just slide. Push the clutch in and it will roll but let clutch out and wheels slide. Even with the decompression release. it is a diesel two wheel drive, 240D. has me puzzled. thanks. John

You need to put the transmission in the highest gear to pull start a tractor without sliding the wheels.

I'm lost ? If it starts with the starter and runs good why in the heck are you pull starting it ?

You bring up a good point.
Now that you bring it up Yanmar did have some kind of a power shift transmission. I have never drove on but looked at one for sale that the owner was telling me about it and it had a weird shift tower. Maybe they were like the Ford select o speed ?

Our 750 Deere will not roll start, high gear in 4 wheel drive it will not even turn over. They aren't that fast in high gear so I believe that is were part of the problem lies.
