John Deere B Restoration- DLTX67 carb

Hello again,
As many of you know this B is my first restoration and I have had many posts asking for help and advice. thanks so much for all those who have been helpful! The B is making progress. I took it for a ride yesterday.
I have a DLTX 67 carburetor that was on the tractor when I bought it. I have spent many hours working on this carb! I have sand blasted, drilled all the passageways and replaced ALL the brass parts and the needles. I finally bought another carb on e-bay which was rebuilt by Robert's Carburetor and put it on the tractor to make sure it wasn't something else. It wasn't! The problem is the original carb! the tractor runs fine on the Robert's carb.
I bought the Robert's Video, How to Rebuild DLTX Series Carburetors. I have Done Everything on the video! the original carb still does what it always did! Tractor starts, speeds up, slows to almost die, then speeds up, over and over. I don't know what else to do.
I can't have 2 carbs, I need to sell one. I can't sell one if it isn't right!
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Bob

From the picture, it appears your throttle disk is deformed and not centered. Replace the disk and you should get better results. May not be your only problem but it is one. Mike

3 possibilities- you've damaged the seat for the idle &/or load needle, low float level, or the tiny passage is still plugged. Also make sure the throttle plate moves freely.

Looking into the throttle end of the carbs, see if there is a small hole on the LH side of the throat right at the throttle plate. It's a very small hole and can get plugged easily. Been awhile since I've worked on a 67 and it may not be there. I think it's an economizer or something like that. Frank

Well if at first you don't succeed try, try again.
Study the fuel passages VERY closely. I could never give up at this stage. Keep going you will get it.
I have been there and done that years ago ! Once you finally get it figured out you will only get better for the next one. Compare yours to the Roberts one. Look close for the little holes by the throttle plate to be open. Make sure yours has as many as the one that works and they are indeed open. Maybe yours has one completely plugged off and hidden.
Do you have the throttle linkage hooked up the same for both of them ? Pay special close attention to the lower cotter pin as they can rub and bind up. I bet everyone on here has been had by this before.

Give me a number to call you at,by the pics it wont take more than 10 min. to walk you through all the holes if you already have the drill bits. Its acting just like the idle Circuit is still plugged, I have a couple of #67' carbs here rebuilt so we will be on the same page. No charge just passing on the help I got years ago

I hope you bought your parts from Roberts also because the cheap e-bay stuff is hit or miss as to being made correctly. First would need to know if this thing ran before changing carb and if so did it do EXACTLY the same thing then as now ? Those throttle shafts/blades are very fussy and once you add a new felt seal even gets worse. That thing when completely assembled needs to swivel perfectly free from completely shut to completely open. Sometimes one has to sand the bushing a little to get size perfect and sometimes one has to lightly sand the throttle plate edges a little to fit bore perfectly without "sticking" when closed. Also check your little clip/washer on the bottom of rod going back to governor. Check it in ALL positions of throttle shaft. You may have a cracked drill plug , I'm assuming you replaced both throttle bushings by looking at carb pic. Are you sure that nozzle is in all the way and "seated" ? Maybe camera angle but that spring shouldn't stick out that much. Check the other carb from Roberts and then yours to see if the nozzle protrudes up in throat same distance. Post back when you find problem.

Forgot to mention....hope your throttle disc looks better than the choke does. You can't have that at throttle end.

if you can call me about 11am would be great. I'll try to get out everything I need before hand.
Thanks, Bob

To answer some questions - All parts came from Roberts. The throttle disc and choke disc are also new. The throttle linkage is hooked up the same for both. Cotter pins are not the problem since I have not been putting them in because I've been taking the carbs off so many times. I am sure I did not damage any of the passage ways. I only actually used a drill on one, the others I used the drill bits by hand (am very careful). The tractor ran before (not well) but did not do this! That tells me it's something I did to the carb! The throttle shaft, bushings, disc are new and do not stick.
thanks, Bob
