37A Resealing Axle housing to trans case.

Noticed the seal/gasket between the axle housing and the trans case has started to seep. I know I have to split them and replace the gasket. What all does this entail? Do I need to remove axles? Other than the gasket A5541R and gear oil what else will I need? Thanks in advance.
 
Some good blocking and jacks and also splitting stands would be nice!

Be careful!
 
Leave wheels & axles on... Make a stand bolting heavy angle iron to frame rails on each side then to a longer one parallel to the floor to keep the front end from tipping over when you split it. Make sure front wheels are blocked & stand won't collapse in any direction. (The stands only keep the tractor front from tipping over & not supporting weight.) You still need good blocking nearest the split. Your biggest challenge will be getting the dowels separated & lined back up when reassembly takes place. Its not a bad job but be careful.
 
I will post what I did to more than one tractor
& it repaired the leak on both.

Jack up enough to Just take most of the weight
off either end of the tractor.

Loosen all bolts but do not remove from either
housing.

Separate the housing 1/4 of an inch.. &
BE CARE FULL not to destroy any part of
exsisting gasket if possible...

Clean flanges the best you can.

Go buy a new package of Dental floss , Starting
at the top make 4 to 5 rounds on the outside
of all the mounting bolts & line up pins.
Retighten all bolts, pull both housing evenly
back together.

Reinstall new oil or Old oil & leave over
nite or a few days & watch for seepage or
dips. My Guess is if done right, you won't
see any leaks. + you don't hafta realign
the housings & you won't have to buy a new or
make a new gasket.

If you have NO leak, reassemble everything
else..

May not be right way for a Restored Unit.
But it is the right way for a farm tractor &
you need a easy fix....
