When I removed the big nut to remove bowl I found a spring .the spring is broke.what does it do? There was also a lot of rust. This tractor never sat out at night any ideas?

That spring (# R10078) holds the brass nozzle/jet above it up in place.

It is still available from DEERE for some six bucks.

You can get that spring (R10078) from Robert's Carb Repair in Spencer Iowa for $2.84.
Go to www.robertscarbrepair.com or call 712-262-5311.
They also have a DVD on carb repair.

When I removed spring I didn't see anything up in there and I don't think I lost anything like the nozzle you are referring to. would anyone have a diagram for it?

Nozzle is still in there. Also my float is some kind of wood it looks like not brass. The carb has not been off the tractor that I know of.

It's in there... open both butterflies and look down the bore... see a little smokestack-looking jobbie about half-way? That's the nozzle. If the spring has rusted in two then the nozzle is most likely stopped up. Ditto for the passages. Do yourself a favor and send the whole carb to Roberts. You'll drive yourself crazy trying to clean it back to specs yourself.

Arrgh! You have a cork float which probably dates to when the tractor was made, or at least shortly thereafter. Send it to Roberts. There is no one better.

look through the throat of the carb and you should see ,at the half way point , a brass tube about the size if a straw protruding up from the floor about an inch or so. That is the top of the nozzle and means there IS one in there. Will take a puller to get out. If you are going to tackle it better get Roberts video at least.

Do yourself a BIG favor and purchase "HOW to Rebuild Duplex Series Carburetors" and "How to Rebuild DLTX Series Carburetors Part2"..
The Spring that rests in the counter bore of the NUT holds the NOZZLE # 48 in place. This is not a picture of a carburetor from your TRACTOR however it shows the components.

I have no investment or personal connection with Roberts Carbs. I shall say that their VIDEO is GREAT. I used these videos and have since re-built more than dozen 520-530-620-630- D-AR- carbs and they operate perfectly.
