Unstyled A question

Been sitting in shed for 2 to 3 years. Haven't got the chance to tinker with this one much, but this is what I got. Put in fresh gas. Pull started it. Took awhile for it to fire over but it did. It just does not run long and dies. About long enough to stop, get off the tractor and close the petcocks, and it sputters and dies shortly there after. Done this several times focusing on a fuel problem. The last time it died, I am pretty dang certain it wasn't a fuel problem at carb. Maybe not 100%, but close to it. Unscrewed the valve and had a pretty good stream of gas out the bottom of carb immediately after it died. And you could see gas circulating in the sediment bowl when it was running. Any chance this problem could be on the mag side? Going to tinker with it some more at some point. Any thoughts or help appreciated. 1 more thing, it seems to run pretty good when it is running. No miss, etc.

My guess would be it is a fuel problem... chunk of rust floating around in the bowl, sticking needle, something like that.

Given that, a new condenser and points never hurt... but I think it is still a carb problem.

I would have to agree. Check the flow of fuel out of the fuel line at the carb. Maybe you are getting just enough fuel to fill the bowl but not enough flow to sustain the fuel level in bowl as the engine is using the fuel.

I'm with the others. With the tractor off put you a bucket on the ground under the carb and open the drain cock. Let it drain for a few minutes and you can see if it is getting clogged in any way. If that's not your problem set your points and put in a new condenser. I had problems out of my condenser and thought it was a fuel problem. I put a old one in and it ran like a top after that.
