450c loss of power

I have a 450c that loses power after about 30 minutes of use. Runs fine for a while then major loss in power. Almost seems like a lack of fuel issue. Like I am running out of diesel. I know what I don't think it is. I don't think it is a over heating problem as I have flushed the radiator and checked to make sure there is good fluid circulation. I also do not think it is a air filter problem as it was clean. What I think it might be is a injector problem or perhaps a turbo problem. Might be my imagination but I could have swore I use to hear it wind down when I shut the machine down now I do not hear it. But not sure. Also the pipe that goes between the turbo and the exhaust manifold is loose. I can turn it with my hand and leaks exhaust. Does the turbo need back pressure from that to work? What is throwing me off is that is runs fine for awhile then not so much. Any thoughts and ways to trouble shoot would be great. Don't want to fork over 700 hundred for a turbo I may not need.

It sounds like your inner coupler in the injector pump is comming apart,, remove the timing cover and see if little blak pieces are in vissable,, we have talkrd a lot about this very common problem,, it is clogging the retun check valve and restricting the fuel..

anyway you can walk me through that in a little more detail? Where is the timing cover. and were is the return check valve? If bad do I need to replace the injector pump?

Mail me tomorrow and I can walk you through it..I'm on a slow computer in the house right now...

Parts key 9 is the check valve that could be plugged & parts key 15 is the timing window cover.

So when I remove the cover what am I looking for? A bunch of black pieces floating around in there? Should I also remove the check valve and chech to see if that is clogged? Thanks for all your help. Hope this is it. Last question why would it run fine for 30 minutes then start to bog down? Would the heat affect the pump some how?

I see the diagram. But what excactly am I looking for? Also could it be as simple as a clogged fuel filter? Where might that be found on the 450c. Thanks for all your help

Tim S. I tried to email you but I am not able to see your email button. I enabled mine if you can email me...Thank you

If you haven't changed fuel filter you need to do so and check for good fuel flow from tank. I also forgot there's also a strainer(parts key 8) in inj pump inlet that could be plugged also.

Checked the window in the fuel pump and was clean. Removed the intake to the fuel pump and that screen was clean as well. Also removed the overflow and that was clean as well. Put it all back togethor and it ran great for ten minutes. Then it acted like it was starving for fuel. Almost like it idled down. If I just let it sit it idled back up again. However when it did idle down I gave it more fuel and it did not respond. When I turned down the fuel it stalled and I had a had time restarting it. Any suggestions? Any chance this could be a injector problem? I will replace the fuel filter hopefully today. Does anyone know when the filter it located on the 450c to save me alittle time?

replaced fuel filter and had a hard time filling it with the hand pump. I would pump and pump and it never really filled the filter. Once it was filled it ran fine for ten minutes then the loss of power came back. But I noticed since the hood was off that there was a bunch of air and froth and bubbles in the fuel filter. Would it make sense that this is the problem? The injector pump is sucking in air out of the fuel filter? I am going to blow out my fuel lines from the pump lever back to the tank and hope there is a clogged line. As would be a easy fix. Does anyone know if there is suppose to be air and bubbles in the fuel filter? One I shut the dozer down it fills back up with fuel. But when running is is never full.

I agree that more than likely fuel outlet in tank is blocked. Another possibility is a bad valve in the lift pump. There should be no air get in filter once it's been bleed out.

That was it. Blew the line out and hooked it back up and then ran it hard for twenty minutes and it ran great. Filter stayed filled with no bubbles. I want to thank you all for your help especially Tim S. thanks for all your help. Saved me a lot of money.
