Abg55 or 555

What is the difference between an abg 55 plow and a 555 plow? Is there a number stamped on it someplace?

# 555 has trip btms,ABG does not. #55 could have either bottomns , High Speed or Black Smith SHARES. #555 has more than likely throw away shares. (PRICE)

Ben, Here are a couple of pictures of my 55ABH plow and my 555ABH plow. As others have said, the 55 has spoke wheels and solid standards. The 555 has disk wheels and trip back standards. I believe both plows originally came with blacksmith type plow points but most have been converted to the throw-away shares. I was told the F620 plows where the 1st ones to come from the factory with throw-away shares. Al

You guys are right. I had to find a bigger plow for my 830 as the 3-bottom didn't put much of a load on it. Found a 66 4-bottom that makes it work a little harder in my clay ground. Al

The HS bottoms came out in 1953 so technically the later built model 55 plows could have had the throw-away shares. But even after 1960, Mr. Farmer could have ordered the NGP or other type conventional plow bottom; although this was rather uncommon, it was possible. PLow bottoms were like ordering ice cream...a few cones, but lots of flavors.

Tyler, Thanks for the information. I always thought the 555s came with throw-away shares, but I was told it wasn't until the F620. I do know my 55 was converted to HS throw-away shares when my dad bought it about 50 years ago. Al
