Where is hi/low range select lever on a 755?

According to manuals all JD 755s have a high/low range hydrostatic transmission. I'm buying one and the owner said it didn't. It's slow. I could work with it the way it is but I really hope it has a high low selector. I can't find any kind of illustration on what the controls do and where they are located. I'm going to get it tomorrow. I'd love to be able to figure all this out before money actually exchanges hands.

I bought a used 1996 model of the JD 855, big brother of the 755, about 14 years ago. In the time I've had it, other than routine maintenance, I've replaced a cotter pin in the joy-stick linkage, replaced a leaf spring on the PTO lever and replaced a steel hydraulic line that rubbed against the frame too much. I had to remove and clean out the Diesel fuel tank too after a bout with Diesel fuel microbes/bacteria or whatever that snotty looking stuff is that grows at the Diesel fuel/water interface. There's no drain built into the tank so I now treat all my Diesel fuel with an anti-bacterial additive. Next time I have the tank out I think I'll somehow put a bottom clean-out drain in the tank - or every year or three I may just use a siphon hose that goes clear to the bottom of the tank to get accumulated water condensate out. For what's soon to be a 20 year old tractor, I'd say that's darned reliable. Oh, if you plan to use front mounted implements on it, such as a loader or snow blower, I highly recommend the MFWD version.

Thanks. That's good to hear. My father has a 1979 850 that's been good but it's quite different too. This 755 does have a loader and mid mount mower on it. It's 4 wheel hydrostatic drive with power steering. Only problems I know of is the gas cap is missing and the loader cylinders have air in them--thus a bit floppy in movements.

I'm curious, do you agree with me on this... I think selling the belly mower now and then potentially selling the tractor with loader later will bring more than keeping the mower (which I have NO use for) and selling it all together. The tractor has ag tires and to me is more loader than mower. I think anyone buying it (like me) will not think the mower adds much to the value--thus better profit to sell it separately to someone wanting the mower for their tractor.

If the unit was close to here I would be interested in the entire package.

I don't know where you're located. I'm in Greensboro, NC. Anyway it's not for sale immediately--gotta evaluate exactly what I have. I've removed the mowing deck already and hopefully will get that pressure washed and stored today. Beyond that not sure yet.

High Low was exactly where you said--just didn't see it. Works much more like I expected in high range. "Cruise control" works too! I figured it out on the mile long drive home.

It would make the movie " The Straight Story" look like a short trip.

I guess you could try to sell the belly mower without tractor, but think you might be better off in the long run to store it for selling later with the tractor. One on the pluses of the 55 series is that the belly mower can be on the tractor along with the front end loader. And then, of course, a pto driven rear 3-point implement could be on too! The selectable pto even makes it more flexible.
