Starting system

I have a 1941 JD A that I am completely new to. I am told that I can hook up some type of electrical starting system in lieu of hand cranking the flywheel (my wife cannot start it this way). can anyone be of any help? Thank you.

Before I start, it would be easier to either get a different tractor, or park it on a hill and pop the clutch!

However, if you really want electric start, you have to begin with a different flywheel that accepts a starter ring gear. Then you need the ring gear, a starter bracket, starter, battery, battery cables, generator if not equipped currently, battery tray and hold down, wiring to and from the battery to the starter to the generator and back again, and a alt gauge.

I've probably missed something, but what it boils down to is that seriously, the cost of all this is pretty prohibitive. You could buy an electric start tractor for what you will spend with all the required parts!

I would suggest you go to http://jdparts.deere.com and in the parts catalog box enter the letter A. Then look up your tractor (it might take a little while to download the thing) then look up starting and lighting.

Good luck!!!

If you have a hot mag, good carb, solid core plug wires, correct plugs, they start easily, my 38 A will start at any temperature with ease
