Folks, you were so helpful before, can you help me again? My "M" isn't charging no matter were I set the ignition switch, plus the engine won't start only when set at high charge. I had the generator repaired and verified it charged, rebuilder questioned the fact that I my need a regulator. There is not one on my tractor, I thought it all was controlled though the ignition switch ?????
Second problem, my throttle lever will not stay up beyond 2/3 throttle, everything appears to be intact re the spring e.t.c. Any suggestions for both or either problems will be appreciated

If you run my Troubleshooting Procedure for a Cutout Relay type system it may help find the problem. If indeed the Genny is okay did you Polarize it before you started her??? The Cutout Relay needs a good frame ground to work, sure its well grounded?? The Light switch charge control cant work UNLESS it has a good ground, check that.

Make sure the genny is polarized then see if it charges if you use a jumper to ground the gennys FLD post?? If it charges then but not otherwise the switch may not be grounded or the wires open from FLD on genny to the switch.

Try my procedure.

On a 430 I recently worked on there was friction disks right behind the lever under the dash, wasn't to bad of a job to do since the hood was off. chris

Either your switch is wired wrong or it's bad. You should have coil voltage on every position except off. You can take it apart gently and clean up the contacts inside. Should you need a new one be sure it's for an M with a cut out relay. Vendors will try to tell you an M, 40, 420 will interchange but they won't.

You will find the cut out relay John T mentioned behind the battery attached to a rectangular plate near the bottom of the dash. It's on the back side so it isn't visible until you remove the plate. Do follow his troubleshooting guide!

On your throttle problem there aren't many options as there are no friction disk's just metal to metal. You can get a new spring from Sharps that will help greatly or You could try to make some type of friction disk to go behind the throttle lever. That would be hard to do since it's tapered.

Thanx everyone I'll try my testing ASAP, It probably is a simple repair since storage. NO I didn't polarize the Generator, so I'll start there and go on. I'll get back, Thanx again. G.M.
