JD 4500 unexpected stoppage

Hello, My first post. When tilling with my John Deere 4500 it will unexpectedly shut off. If I quickly put it into neutral and sometimes also disengage the PTO the engine will catch and keep running. Usually I can reengage the PTO, put it in forward and it will run for another minute up to an hour. This morning I couldn't get more than 5 seconds tilling before it would quit again. Quite some time ago I bypassed the seat switch. Any ideas?

In addition to all the safety switches, you might have a loot at, or just change, the fuel filter.

Thanks for the reply. That is a good suggestion. This situation has been going on intermittently for 2-3 years. About a year ago I changed the fuel filter. The problem remained occasionally until yesterday when it got chronic. A couple hours later I was able to till for twenty minutes with no problem. It only occurs after a few minutes (15) of use with the PTO engaged and at or near full throttle. Thanks again
