5010 starts & runs well…then dies

We have a 5010 that starts wonderfully and runs really well for about 30s-1min, but then it just dies.

Sounds like its running out of fuel, but if you turn the key again it starts immediately and does the same thing.

Lots of fuel always in the filter and getting to the injector.

Is there something in the injector that can cause this?

Probably check valve is plugged that screws into inj pump that return line attaches to. Remove 1 of the 2 screws that hold timing window on pump and move cover from hole if you see coffee ground looking material the drive ring is deteriorating. Now start engine if it runs correctly check valve is plugged.

X 2 what TX Jim mentioned. If you do find small brown bits under the timing cover the pump will need serviced. Don't clean the return fitting and think all is well, or you will risk shearing off the retainer pins causing MUCH more damage than you have now.
