I'm new to the forum, finally have a reason to join!!

I just purchased a 1948 John Deere AR from the family farm in New Liskeard, Ontario. My father-in-law grew up driving the AR, which his father bought brand new in 1948.

The plan is to restore the tractor the best I can with the help of a buddy that has restored an H, BR, D and a B.

Here is a picture of the tractor all loaded up and heading out of New Liskeard for the first time in 66 years.

Cannot see a photo. No doubt it is a bit exciting. This last weekend I briefly drove the 1940 G that was at my Grandfather's farm. The previous times I drove it (working) was about 60 years ago.

Couple of years ago I got to do some repair work on my third cousins' 1936 unstyled John Deere A. The last time I had been around that tractor was in the early 1950's when it was still being used fairly often to do regular farm work......"Old John" just didn't seem the same, seemed smaller and more fragile and everything was "pretty loose" even though it had been supposedly restored, painted up and got new tires just a few years ago, 1996 they said. Well, I fixed up the steering system that somebody had messed up, cleaned the old boy up, put on the right tall muffler, and got him running pretty good. So then I ran him around the yard a few laps in second, third, and fourth gear, just for "old times sake" before I delivered him back home. Brought back a few good memories......Yep.
