I have a 37 john deere A. its been sitting for about 30 years in side a barn. We had it running the other day and noticed movement of the fan shaft in and out when running. Also noise coming from the governor and fan shaft area. Anyone know what to look for and how to possible fix Thank You..

Probably a bearing has gone bad after years of non use(no oil) at the rear of the fanshaft. You need to remove the Gov. and fanshaft to replace the bearing. The fanshaft won't come out with the radiator installed. Bearing can be found at NAPA for 1/2 price of Deere. Part number PB01. Be sure to keep the shim pack located at the Gov. and fanshaft. It's important to reinstall those to keep the proper gear clearance.

My 37 done the same thing it was a bearing. Also if it has not been changed to a friction disc fan now is the time to do it. I lost my fan into my radiator because I had the original rubber hub fan. It's not if but when it's going to come off because after 77 years the rubber in those hubs go bad and don't last for ever .

Thanks guys for the info. Looks like a tear down coming. I guess the best way would be take governor and fan shaft off of tractor? Never done this before wish me luck.
