Polarizing Voltage Regulaor

I need suggestions/instructions for polarizing the new voltage regulator on my 1963 4020. I would appreciate any advice. Never done this before. Been having problems with battery drainage, thought I would begin here with the replacement of the regulator. If not the source of my battery problem, I would appreciate any advice in troubleshooting. Thank-you in advance,

With tractor shut off, take a small wire and momentarily touch the battery terminal to the armature terminal. It will spark and that's all you have to do.

You don't polarize the regulator, but the generator gets polarized by arcing, sparking the bat. & gen. connections. If the tractor has an alternator, forget it.

Actually, the generator NOT the Voltage Regulator is what needs polarized prior to start up by using a small jumper wire to momentarily flash jump BAT on the VR over to Gen/Arm and you should get a small spark. I doubt the VR is he cause of a slow battery discharge while setting, although a bad VR can be a cause of failure to charge.

Gas or 24 volt Diesel ????????????????

IF a diesel copper brush dust inside the starter can cause a battery to slowly discharge.

Have the batteries been load and hydrometer tested at a shop???
