gp gas tank question

I have a 1930 GP that I was wanting to put an R-2 magneto on. When I went to install it this weekend I could not get it to fit under the gas tank. I know I have seen gp tanks before with some pockets in the bottom rear before but my tank is smooth on the bottom so the R-2's magnet hits the tank. Is there a serial number break for the different tanks. I guess the search is on for a fuel tank with the pockets in it. Thank you for any tips.

superbee,

A lot of the reproduction tanks do not have the mag pocket installed. Also, what shape are the gas tank filler necks on the tank? As I recall, the gas tanks for the big bore GP's do not have a mag pocket either. Feel free to call me with any questions at (812) 259-1706 (after 6:00 PM Eastern is best).

Small bore and early big bore tractors with no heat shield under the tank have the depression in the tank for the magneto. When the heat shield is added the tank is raised about an inch.
