7520 Broken Axle

My dad was using our 7520 4 wheel drive and the left rear axle broke right at the bearing. He said it has been broke for quiet some time as it was rusted half way through. How hard of a job is it to put in a new axle?

Not a hard fix, just gotta get the wheel wedges loose from the broken axel. Theres not a lot in the way when you unbolt the axel housing from the rear end. That is a common problem on the 7520's.

Good news is that I had the wheels busted loose and moved this spring to move them in to put duals on them. Was it a problem because they are the small size axles and not the bigger 100 mm? Also, when I unbolt the axle housing from the rear end, will anything come flying out that I need to be watching for?

NOTHING will "fly" out, but the brake plate and planetary pinion MAY fall on your foot if you are no careful!

Too bad they didn't use 4620 axles instead of 4020 axles on that tractor. 100mm might be overkill but 92mm would be perfect IMO. Then you could put 10 bolt duals on instead of 9 bolts.

The front and rear axles are the same diameter. The front housing is 4020. The rear housing is similar to a 4620, but not identical. The rear axle might be 92mm where it comes out of the housing but it tapers down a lot, down to 3-3/8" like the fronts. I could see one of those snapping in half.
