Styled b Carb question

Will a carb from an early styled A run a styled B from the same year? I am seeing Styled B carbs selling for crazy prices, and the carbs for A's are a bunch cheaper. Will a DLTX53 run the B or should I find a DLTX34 I can afford?

I'll stick my neck out on this since most won't. The ones you list 53/34 and 67 (B) and 71 (A) are all pretty similar and share 80% same parts. The 67 and 71 don't have economizer plugs (a spec. sized orifice plug ) and they all have slightly different main nozzles . 67 and 71 are designed to run gas only. The others have to be a "compromise" carb to run good on distilate but run good enough to get up to op. temp on gas. The 67 & 71 are expensive because all the pullers want them to run on A,s & B,s of any year it will bolt on to. I run a 71 on my '50 B w/gas manifold and ground to match larger size at carb and tapered back into manifold 3". Some say it won't work. Works excellent. That engine doesn't know what's feeding it. It only knows it needs atomized fuel/air mixture and that is adjustable to make it run correctly. My '37 A run and worked excellent on gas with the original 18 all fuel carb. Basically splitting hairs. Linkeage may be little different but they all use the same end gaskets so they all bolt up same. 34 or 73 would be first to look at (B) before I would go with the A carbs. You will probably hear from some people more experienced than me but this is my experience.

I have a Dltx-67 I don't use anymore if that is what you really want. It was rebuilt last year and was ran on a late B the beginning of the year. Email is open if interested.

If your engine is stock you will be much happier using an A carb. on an A and a B carb. on a B.
I don't think they are so fussy about the individual model numbers like all-fuel verse gas they all seem to run ok on gas. But look at the throttle bore size the A ones are about twice the size.

Tom,

Simple. Make a phone call to Mr. Shelby at Popinjohn.... I was running my B on an A carb and didn't recognize it. Never ran right, too much carb for the small B.
Discuss with Mike and let him advise you, I'm sure glad I followed his advice, my B run flawlessly now.
