2355 Shift Issue

Just bought a clean looking 2355 JD said to have a 2 stage clutch.(with a 48 JD loader). When I tried it out briefly I had trouble getting it into gear with-out grinding in both shifter ranges. I thought I was just not used to the clutch but now that Ive got it and trying allot of differerent things it grinds very frequently shifting into I range and always when trying to shift it into II range. Going from I range to reverse it does not grind. Is there an adjustment I hope or does this sound like a facing a tractor split for clutch/conponent repairs? Any directional info appreciated. Thank you!!

Does it have the "TSS" Top Shaft Syncronized option ?
Is there a hydraulic pto engagement lever between the two transmission shifters ?
There is usually less grinding if you start out with both shifters in neutral when the clutch is pushed. Select the desired position with the left shifter lever first. Then select the desired gear with the right side shifter.

Nature of the beast, Start with clutch engaged, and both sticks in netural and engage both sticks at the same time. They have a spudder brake that suppose to stop the transmisson from turning when in netural, mine didn't work very well when it was new nor did anyone elses. What I have found is when tractor is used regular it tends to shift better than when it's set for a long time.
