The new style steps with a hand rail. Do these interfer with
getting to the battery ? Dad and I are both getting older
and these should be alot safer to use.

We did the one from Deere on a 4020 and it does not cause an issue with the battery but if you have a loader on it, you might want to do some measuring first.

Mike,

I put this John Deere step on my Dads 2510 a few years ago (wasn't supposed to fit ) and it works very well even with the loader.

Should work well on your 4020 and well worth the investment.

I got some for my 2510 from Sloan Express. They are K&M brand. They are real nice to have. I have a 48 loader on my 4010 and to put them on it I would have to cut the frame of the loader a bit. I couldn't bring myself to do it so I put the dual steps off of a 4520 if I remember right. Yes they are a pain though to get to the batteries and the hydro filter but over all still worth it. My neighbor has the same one's on his 2510 and 4010 and weighs in at close to 400 pounds and hasn't had any problems with them.

Just looked at the picture posted and I have a little different style than that. Not a very good picture of mine but all I have at the moment.

No you can still get to the battery easily, really really nice to get on and off, wish I would have bought it sooner

Get the ones through Abilene machine they are 3 steps, better than JD ones and much cheaper.Bought mine at a booth at a fair.238.00 and delivered.

Does anyone else hesitate to do this because you feel like it's admitting you are getting old? I could really use another step on my 4010, not so much for getting on but for getting off because I tend to get off going forward and jump off the step. The disks in my back can't take that. However in my mind the next thing I'd be looking at is a recliner that raises to help you get up and a walk-in bath tub.

I hesitated for years to install steps with handrail on my 4255 but finally gave in and it sure makes getting on/off easier for me & I have nerve damage.

Richard: Not long after I posted this Dad mentioned about selling the 4020 ? Even though it is barley used anymore I still think he needs to keep it around for moving heavy snow or downed trees and things like that as long as they live where they do now.
I mentioned about the step and he said he had no problem getting on and off it.
I think you bring up a good point I think we all resist adding things like this, but can't remember how you ever got along without them. Just like a loader tractor !
I am thinking about it being safer especially in winter with snow and ice to help prevent you from slipping off those little steps.
