Got my new (to me) 4630 home. some questions

so my new purchase has made it home. It's in better condition than I thought, which is good for once!

The duals are off, and the inside tires are too narrow for the kind of work I'll be doing with it. it must have been set up for row crops.

It's got the cast iron centers and no signs that the hubs have been moved recently.

What are the secrets to loosening up and moving these hubs? What are some things I shouldn't do?

Also, this tractor came with 18.4/42s and my old 4630 has 20.8/38s. when I measure the tires on the two sets of duals, the tires measure the same height. is the overall height of these tractor tires the same?

Other than that I need to widen the front, and take the aux. fuel tank off of the front. This old girl ws a find!

DON'T hammer on the wedge bolts.

DON'T use a cheater bar on the bolts used to knock the wedges loose.

I had some miserable frozen wheels on my recent 4430. It took several hours and lots of pounding on the axle, but it did come loose - with no heat.

I deal wiyh tight ones a lot,, check my posy on yhem,, i will post more tomorow on my shop computer..

Tires are same height.
If you have room loosen the wedge bolts on the inside. It will make it easier since wedges might be frozen to axle. wheel can move from wedges. Turn jack bolts against wedge.
Beat the end of the axle with a heavy hammer.

Get a piece of pipe that will slide over the axle. May have to remove the snap ring. Cut the end of the pipe so it only contacts the wedge with the jack bolts. Weld a thick piece of steel on the other end. Tighten the jack bolts a little. Hit the end of the pipe a few times with a sledge. Tighten jack bolts again. May have to repeat several times. I think a 3" pipe will work. I wouldn't hit the end of the axle.

another question guys-

I need 12v power to run my baler monitor as well as for my bale processer solenoid valve. where would be the best place to draw this power from? it would need to be switched.

On my other 4630 the last owners pulled it from a relay or something under the dash on the left side that had I think two terminals, and looked like an old voltage regulator... I haven't tried to run a baler (net wrap)off of that power source yet..

If I'm going to take the time to wire this thing, I want to do it right.

Thanks!

Use a propane weed burner, heat a couple feet in from hub for 15 minutes or so and the for about 5 minutes right around the hub, makes it easy.

Yes the relay in frt of the dash on LH is the proper place to get electricity. Back when I delivered JD rd balers to farmers I bored a hole in the metal cover in front of dash to mount the electrical socket for bale monitor.

Thanks for the reply.

This sounds like a good method, but the problem is that I have bolt on duals, and I'd have to remove that center hub first in order to get to the inner hub.

I may have to remove them anyway, I'm just hoping that they're not as stuck as they look.!

I'll add my 2 cents on loosening the wedges. Soak them for a couple days or a week prior to starting. Use your favorite penetrating oil and soak every evening. Hitting the axle is recommended but for me it was just time with pressure on the wedges.
