Deere 2155 overheating

I just bought a 2155 with 2500 hours.First time I go todo work with it the temp gauge constantly rises from the bottom of the dial to red over a 10 min ride to get an implement. I filled the rad reservoir to the top with distilled H2O looking for bubbles to check for head gasket/crack, no bubbles. With the tractor idleing and the temp gauge on the edge of the red zone I removed the rad cap and put my finger in the coolant, not hot, slightly above my body temp. After shutting down the tractor the coolant temp in the reservoir did rise to slightly uncomfortable via finger test. There is a hole that has been patched with a screw/thread tape in the reservoir, could this be a cause(I know probably not but possibly an indicator of something)? To my limited knowledge base I think water pump or thermostat. Am I on the right track? Also is there an online source for water pump removal instructions or what manuals do I need to order?

Check the head, block, radiator and thermostat housing with a heat gun, probably find it has a bad temp sensor.

As previously stated. The stat is stuck closed and the temperature sensor is somewhat suspect.
DO NOT operate the tractor without a stat. It will operate too cold.
All too often the fan belt is also glazed and the fan pulley/alternator pulleys are worn. Super tightening to prevent slippage just tears out the alternator and water pump bearings.
The coolant maybe old and while it may pass the freeze test. The corrosion inhibitors were depleted years ago. New HD diesel anti-freeze and distilled water will be required.
The 2155 were excellent little tractors and should be taken care of.
Is there a loader or anything mounted on it? Has the hydraulic filter and screen been serviced?
Is there a block heater for winter use instead of damaging the engine with ether?

Thanks for the reply's. No loader. I have no idea what has been serviced. I changed oil and will do coolant now. What is the best source for service instructions. I only have owners manual. Will get a new thermostat monday.

NO loader. Heater installed. No knowledge of service other than I changed the oil and will change coolant.

You omitted that these same manuals can be purchased from one's friendly local JD dealership for the same or close to the same price.

The local dealership sometimes is not as fast or as economical.

That depends entirely on the individual dealer!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure if its been posted, but some of the older
water pumps and pump rebuild kits for these engines
used a plastic impeller. Ive seen these come apart
before. If the thermostat doesnt cure it, id go to
the pump next.

Wiring harness grounds are outlined in red plus I think there will be some ground connection in one or both of the plug-ins behind center cluster.

Ran tractor again today and fluid seems to be circulating. Fluid in the reservoir got hot this time. I will be bringing it home to my garage to tear into. I am thinking the impeller has come apart. This tractor is alot more complex than my massey 135 and ford 3000.

I put a mechanical temp gauge on and drove. It went up to 200 then dropped and stayed at 190. Is 190 the correct operating temp?

Put in new sender. The needle steadily climbed to just before the red and then settled back to just above the half way point of normal. Thanks guys.
