Putting a 4040 engine in a 4020 early model (not my idea or my job) helping a friend--- what pump drive would you use or do we have to machine the front engine pulley or make a drive coupler? looks like the pump support will work like it is. Thanks for any advise.

Use 4020 balancer but you should use a new one.
They are supposed to be replaced every so often anyway.

The 4020 balancer won't work, it will tighten up against the front cover, I use the newer style balancer and machine the front pulley off and counter cut the center till there is 7/8" from the center of the pulley (where the flat washer comes against) to the boss where pump drive lugs screw in, re-drill and tap the holes where the drive lugs screw in.. cut the cross member off on the 4020 pump frame, with it left on you can't change the fan belt, I use a flex fan from Auto Zone for the fan, it gives more clearance part #221619, use a 4430 double belt pulley for the alternator and use the out side pulley (this keeps the nut from hitting the fan, the fan will need the bolt pattern altered a bit and spaced out a bit too, use the combine water pump casting #R54955, it give you the correct clearance, use the 4020 water manifold and exhaust, you must use the newer intake and you will need to existent the air intake pipe to reach the manifold, I was putting a kit together for these, but haven't had time to make any more up lately,, mail me for more info.

Thanks We will rework the front pulley It had a M&W turbo on it an with a little cutting and fitting its on with the pipe in the original hood hole.
