1947 John Deere A Rear Axle Hub

I am tearing down an A and it has been sitting in
the weeds a while. I am having a bear of a time
removing the right hub off the rear axle. I have
soaked it in penetrating oil and have heated it
and used a pulley remover and I cannot budge it.
Before I continue I am wondering if anyone out
there has suggestions. I have attached a picture
and as you can see I was able to remove the hub
clamp. Again any help is welcome before I crack
the cast and have to get a new one. Thanks!

Your pull is incorrect. As you tighten the puller you are pulling the center in. Take this off and tap "not" beat the hub back and forth. As you get it to move a little use the penetration the clean the front of the shaft.

Also when cast iron is heated it expands all directions so while hot it will get tighter on the shaft . I was told to heat cast then let it cool to loosen regular steel would remove while hot.

1"Flat steel, bored - across the axle end, and re bar the size that will just fit thru the holes closest to the axle and tighten as you jar the back , it will come.

What worked for me was to make sure it is cool and then heat from the hole about 1 oclock position directly out towards the outside. Then tapp it off. Works spiffy.

See the posting dated 7-15-05 by JLG. There was an article in the Green magazine regarding the removal of the hub. I don't remember what month or year.
