Hi there I have a model M JD I replaced the
seat and needle in the carb. Now there is gas
running out the front of the carb and the
tractor will not start. The Jet looked
differant than the one I pulled out (no wire
clip to hold it to the float). Any ideas? Did I
recieve the wrong needle valve?
If I am not asking the right way please do not
flame just let me know what I need to answer.
Info on the carb: TSX-245
Marvel Schebler Carb 1948

also the "L" handled valve"s packing does not
seem to be correct.

You should have been able to use your wire hanger if there wasn't one in the kit. Sometimes the needle end will be rubber and sometimes it's solid metal but the float end is always the same. The needle isn't seating.

If it's a Deere L you need to order the packing cone from Deere or Roberts. It's about $5. The aftermarket L's use an O ring.

Thanks M-MAN. I will tear it back down and look at it again. Glad these things are pretty simple to tear down. Looking up "Roberts" Now.

You probably didnt set the float hieght. this may cause the gas to overflow.
I believe its a 1/4 inch from the flat gasket surface to the top of the float.
tear it back down and have a look, also make sure the float is not touching the sides. once its back together listen closely as you have the carb in the palm of your hand and twist your wrist flipping the carb up side down. you should hear the float moving up and down.
good luck. when its fixed right it'll work great
