Slant dash A

I have noticed that you don't see very many slant dash A john Deeres. I was under the impression that they were more or less undesirable, years ago. I wonder if many were scrapped or parted out because there doesn't seem to be very many for sale. Anyway I have found a decent looking one that runs with good rear tires for sale. The asking price is $1500. Would this be a worthwhile project? I know it most likely wouldnt be a profitable one!

Several years ago we bought "Easy" our 46 slant dash A for $1,350.

"Easy" still runs good and has "fair" rear tires.

This was an "easy" worthwhile project.

I have one, can't say there's much different about it than other A's. I use mine as a working tractor (has my loader on it).
If I put $1500 worth of work into mine I think when I was done it would still be worth about $1500-1800.
If you plan to fix it and increase its value you might be near the top end already. If you plan to enjoy it, you should have a good deal there.

I grew up on a 46 slant dash A and a 48 A. The slant dash is still my favorite. Both of them were used for bucking and stacking loose hay for years and have had the shifting modified so that they have reverse in high range. My grandfather would run that old slant dash A pushing a buck of hay in 3rd gear and when the bucker got full, he would simply flip over to the high reverse and back up (at about 10mph!!) to the beginning of the next windrow and start the next buck. When he was done bucking hay, all the bucks were lined up across the field in a nice, neat row!

"<a href="http://youtu.be/telcwMLZaLs?list=UU4gFuJx6qHbiK0FRREh2lDw">Easy</a>" was one of the "easiest" tractors to spruce up a bit.

Cranked it up on Wednesday to move it to another spot in the hay shed.
